Latest in Beauty: The Sunday Times Style Beauty Awards 2018, My Picks

Generally, beauty subscription boxes aren’t for me. Although I think they’re a fantastic idea, I’ve ended subscriptions in the past after receiving a few too many things that I’m not overly interested in, or that I already own. I have to admit that I’m also a little bit of a control freak when it comes to parting with my hard earned money, preferring more control over what its actually providing me with.

Enter: Latest in Beauty. If you haven’t heard of these guys before, they provide beauty boxes on both a subscription and non-subscription basis. For subscribers, they exhibit all of the products available and allow you full control over what you actually receive in your box. For non-subscribers, some ‘collection’ boxes are available to purchase, and some boxes are available via a ‘build your own’ basis, which again, allows you a much greater level of control over which products you receive. Talk about game-changing. This post is dedicated to the latter Latest in Beauty box type, in which they have partnered with The Sunday Times Style in order to celebrate their 2018 Beauty Awards. This edit contains products which have all been shortlisted for the awards.

The Sunday Times beauty box allows you to select six products for £25. It has understandably caused an awful lot of hype within the online beauty world. I could have happily spent hours clicking to select far more than the six products that I received. For this reason it’s a shame that other amount options weren’t available. Another (and the last) downside is that when I got around to ordering my own box, some of the arguably best products like Charlotte Tilbury gems had already sold out, I’m not crying, honest. Aside from the little niggles, and I really have only myself to blame for being too slow. I’m still super happy with the bits that I managed to get my hands on. I thought I’d share my own picks with you, especially considering that the box is such a bargain.

Full Size Products

Latest in Beauty: The Sunday Times Style

MAC, Lipensity Lipstick, Clouds in my Coffee

You know how much I love my nudes, and this is a good’un. This lipstick shade is similar, albeit a little lighter than one of my MAC favourites: Velvet Teddy. It also costs £18 directly from MAC, so it really was a no-brainer.

Latest in Beauty: The Sunday Times Style

The Body Shop, Japanese Matcha Tea Pollution Clearing Mask

Another full-size product, which costs £17 on The Body Shop website and look at that, I’ve already made my money back!

Latest in Beauty: The Sunday Times Style

Sample Size Products

Eve Lom Cleanser, 20ml Sample

The original cleanser comes in 50ml and costs £40. So my sample works out to be worth £16.

Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Serum, 10ml Sample

The 30ml original retails at £46, which means that my sample is worth around £15.

Latest in Beauty: The Sunday Times Style

Sisley, Black Rose Cream Mask

The 60ml original of this luxury skincare product would set you back a whopping £105, making this 10ml sample size worth £17.50.

Latest in Beauty: The Sunday Times Style

Elemis, Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm, 20g

Last but not least, Elemis actually stock this sample size under their travel products and charge £9. The best news for you guys is that I actually already own one of these, and picked this one up to include in a GIVEAWAY! At the end of June, Sophie Hearts turns one, to celebrate I’ll be hosting my biggest giveaway worth over £100. Make sure you’re subscribing so that you get an e-mail when it goes live!

The overall total of the products I chose is roughly a whopping £92.50. This box really is amazing value for money.

If you also got The Sunday Times Style Awards 2018 box I hope you loved yours too. If you didn’t get it, what are you waiting for? Which product would get your vote?

This is such a good idea for a beauty box! I always thought subscriptions boxes were an expensive lucky dip 🙈. It’s so cool how you get to choose your own items and wow, amazing value for money too. I like the sound of the matcha clearing mask, I love Body Shop products 😍. Great review Sophie, enjoy your goodies! xx

This is a really neat idea for a beauty box! I love the surprise of subscription boxes but it’s also nice to pick what you really want!

  5. May 10, 2018 / 8:05 pm

I wish I’d ordered one of these for myself! I love how you were able to choose which products you’d receive from a selection because I’m also disappointed occasionally with some products in subscription boxes. I received a LIB beauty box for my Christmas last year and still use the products today so I’ll need to look in to a subscription. Thank you for sharing xx

I’ve never heard of this subscription box before. I’ve tried so many and they’ve been a bit shit to say the least, love that you can pick the products you receive. £25?!?!?! Such a good bargain! Opening a new tab so I can subscribe too

    • May 11, 2018 / 8:21 pm

I hadn’t until quite recently either, but its amazing!

  10. May 11, 2018 / 8:21 pm

Looks like you have to get in quick if you want the little gems!
I love that you have more control over what you get in your box. I’ve cancelled sub boxes before because despite filling in the personal details (etc) they sent completely irrelevant stuff!

Choosing your own products is such a great feature idea isn’t it! x

I love beauty subscription boxes! There are some fab products in this one and it’s so good you can choose which products you receive. The reason I unsubscribed from birchbox was because the products were getting repetitive but I love the look of this one x

I have seen this box on a few IG stories lately! It does look amazing! Real size products… nothing better! I am always wary of subscription boxes because they are always a bit disappointing but this one is perfect! xx corinne

I’m wary of ones which come as surprise products but getting to pick your own is such a great idea!

  14. May 11, 2018 / 9:01 pm

Great post! I hadn’t heard of this box before. I haven’t done a subscription box before but I like how you can do this one on a once off and it certainly seems affordable at 25 pounds so it’d be a nice treat! Your photos are fab!

It makes sense to limit subscription count when you have too many or not finding enough products that you liked. It’s pretty cool that you can pick out your own products. The MAC lipstick looks so rich. Pretty cool that you got your hands on The Body Shop’s matcha tea mask. Glad you enjoyed your box! 🙂

I’m not a big fan of beauty sub boxes, because mostly I am allergic to 50% of the contents. But I have to say, these items doesn’t look half bad! I didn’t hear of this box before and might check them out! Thanks for sharing ~

I love the name of the first Mac lipstick, it sounds so dreamy! I also adore the Japanese face mask from The Body Shop, it sorts my skin right out! 🙂 x x

I love the sound of this box?! It sounds amazing! I’ve really wanted to look into getting a subscription box recently as they seem so great but I’ve always been put off by the chance of getting products that I know I won’t like, so this sounds like it’s perfect! I hadn’t heard of this before so thank you for sharing! 🙂
