We’ve actually been pretty lucky with the weather as of late. Despite a little (very) cold patch, the sun has been shining and it’s been lovely for late September. Still, the cold, fresh mornings and the overnight chills have served as a reminder that it’s undoubtedly Autumn. Transitional fashion here in Britain is always a little tricky; over the last couple of weeks, I’ve had to leave the house nice and early wrapped up in a jacket. By the time I leave the office in the late afternoon I’ve had to remove multiple layers and it seems crazy that the jacket was ever necessary on such a beautiful, sunny day. This leaves getting appropriately dressed a bit of a challenge.
I personally find Summer fashion so effortless, and Autumn / Winter is a challenge in comparison. I’ve found that layering is what works best for me on recent days which require an early start. In the morning I fight the urge to only chuck on clothing that will provide me with the most warmth. I layer instead, which leaves me cosy enough in the morning and is convenient throughout the day. Come afternoon, I’m thanking myself for being effortlessly able to remove layers and avoid sweltering in a hot car!
When I have the luxury of leaving the house at whatever time I please, I’ve been enjoying baring my legs in the last of the warmth.
Primark has a lot of gorgeous Autumn fashion in right now; perfect transition colours like burgundies and mustards. I love incorporating mustard as it keeps outfits light and bright whilst still acknowledging that it’s no longer Summer. Autumnal cord skirts like this one from Primark are also perfect transitional wear. They look great with boots and you can vary the boot hight as appropriate. If it’s mild, an ankle boot is the perfect pairing, and if not, then pop on some knee highs (mine are Nine West) and brace less of your leg to the chill!
Despite spending Autumn dreading the impending cold of the Winter months, I actually really enjoy many of the things associated with it. I love the changing colours of the leaves and spending my evenings cosying up with my cat, my partner, a gingerbread latte and a book or a movie.
What about Autumn are you most excited for? I’d love some fresh ideas on how to enjoy the season.
