Autumn Nights In | Life Update

This Autumn we’ve been really lucky with the weather; during the day it’s been bright, sunny and much warmer than we all expected. I am though, dreading the nights inevitably drawing in and gradually forcing me into driving both to and from work in darkness. In the spirit of finding a silver lining, I admit that I’ll take any excuse to get cosy; in Autumn there are plenty of them. September has been the first month which I haven’t written a monthly blog highlights for. If I’m being honest it’s because I just didn’t have enough specific highlights. I certainly wasn’t going to make any up in an attempt to pad out a post, either. Instead, I thought I’d reflect on how I did spend September and why I’m not pressuring myself to post for the sake of a schedule.

Autumn Nights In

Recently there’s been something comforting about shutting the door on the cold evenings and lighting a fire (or plenty of Autumn themed candles) and turning in for the night. We have plans to purchase our own home early next year which has seen us entertaining ourselves at home more often. We’ve also been attempting to spend a little less than usual. This could be a small factor towards the lack of monthly highlights but there are plenty of others. September saw the re-access to my Open Uni course. Between work and study, I’ve been burning myself out a little. For that reason, I’ve been putting less pressure on myself to have a constantly full calendar. I’ve genuinely just been enjoying spending downtime at home. Jamie and I have both been pretty flat out and so have been focusing most spare time on each other. We certainly won’t be winning any awards for socialising anytime soon, but it’s been nice to have a more quiet month than usual. We’ve been a little like those McDonalds ‘like making the most of your money?’ adverts and have really taken our Netflix subscription seriously. Jamie is even contemplating whether he can use it as an excuse to update our telly to the Oled 4K Tv Panasonic. I guess I can’t complain seeing as I’ve recently spent more than I’d like to admit on Le Creuset from TK-Maxx for a kitchen which I don’t yet own!

Choosing to be Less Busy

I’ve been very excited for the return of Luther and Brooklyn Nine-Nine and have spent evenings re-watching a few in preparation. Bake Off has also been on religiously, but I’m going to be completely honest and say that it’s only really out of loyalty, we haven’t enjoyed it as much this season. I’ve also been taking self-care seriously and enjoying pamper evenings; face-mask on, pink Moscato in one hand and a book in the other. Overall I’ve really enjoyed the lack of pressure to be busy. I haven’t even battered an eyelid when the inevitable office talk questions what I’m doing at the weekend. Sometimes ‘nothing’ is enough of an answer and is absolutely necessary in order to recharge.

I love this post! I’ve just come back from 6 weeks travelling so I’m loving the thought of getting into a routine again and spending lots of cosy evenings in. A face mask, moscato and book sounds like the dream! There’s nothing better than taking time to recharge and rest.

I’m really trying to make a point of being less busy and finding time for myself, I have so many books I want to get through. I’ve been rewatching Brooklyn Nine-Nine too! Enjoy October x

Like you, I’m a Summer girl, so Autumn is not a season I look forward to. But actually, staying in and snuggling up with sone pink fizz, a good movie, or a good book, sounds pretty much perfect! Hope you and Jamie continue to enjoy some time chilling with easch other 🙂 xx

Your dog is such a little cutie! I think a lot of us opt to hibernate more this time of year. I love getting cosy with candles and Netflix. We put so much pressure on ourselves to be busy all the time. It’s good to rest every once in a while x

I think it’s only natural when it’s colder outside isn’t it? I’m glad you agree x

I feel like I’ve been having the opposite Autumn to you haha – by me the summer weather has taken it’s sweet time leaving but! finally now it starting to feel like Autumn with a few hotter days mixed in at random. One thing I also hate is driving at night, especially if it’s a road I’m not too familiar with. I prefer morning/evening drives because I feel like I can see everything and how the road is curving.

YAY for planning to purchase your first home early next year, so exciting!! With work & studying I can imagine you just want some time to breathe. Before I graduated, and was juggling studies with blogging, there were a few times where I physically could not write because of how much work I had to do and by the time I had free time I didn’t want to look at a computer screen (I majored in Computer Science so! time away from the screen was my form of self care haha.).

I have started masking but recently started slacking a bit!! I wasn’t sure if the mask I was using was helping my skin or not, so I’m aiming to do some more research on some other ones in Sephora. Also!!! What book are you reading? I’m always adding to my goodreads want to read list 🙂 Your little dog is so so cute, so content sitting there watching you read!

I’m glad you relate to disliking driving in the dark! Thank you, we’re very excited. Masks really help my skin and I make sure to use them twice a week but it is so important to find one that works for you! At the minute I’m reading Swing Time by Zadie Smith and really enjoying it. x

This is a lovely update Soph, this time of year is definitely all about those cosy nights in and self-care evenings. I can relate to the busyness feeling as my Open Uni course has just started this week too. It’s tough to balance everything but even more reason to relax and recharge in the evenings. My weekends at the moment sound very similar to yours, I’m actually looking forward to doing nothing other than catching up with some TV. Aww, your doggie is super adorable, that such a cute photo. Thanks for sharing and hope you have a nice chilled weekend <3 xx

Self-Care is so important. I absolutely love using cosy Autumn nights to just treat myself to some down time, especially as the hectic and busy Winter months are soon approaching!

Love this! I’m such a big autumn fan, still really waiting for the sweater weather I’ve been wishing for (really cannot complain with the sun tbh, I’m just ready for colder weather haha). Self-care is so important, especially this time of year! I know I always need the extra little bit of self love when the sun starts coming out less often haha! (Also, Brooklyn Nine-Nine: yaaaaas!!!)

YESSSS choosing to be less busy goes a long way. You’re not stressed out and all of that good stuff. Sending you positive vibes!

Having an “autumn night in” is so comforting isn’t it. Getting all cosy, lighting candles. I bet Oatmeal Cookie smells so good! I agree I haven’t enjoyed bake off as much but it is still great to watch on a Tuesday evening. I love the picture of you reading, your little fur baby is so cute. Look at him/her looking at you! So bloody cute. Self care is always so important x

This is such a well-written post! It just all flows so well and was actually really relaxing to read which goes well with the theme of the post. So exciting that you’re buying your own home soon, I can’t wait to see some interior posts hehe! It’s so important to take some time to do nothing sometimes and there’s absolutely no shame in it!

I’m loving putting all the autumn scented candles on now that it’s getting colder 😍 I need to catch up on Brooklyn 99, but I have been watching Bake Off every week! I’m really loving this season, it’s so difficult to try and figure out who is going to win, and I love the new presenters, too 💗

I am too! Oh I’m really glad that you’re enjoying it. I absolutely love the presenters and loved last season of it so I don’t know why I’m not feeling this one so much but hopefully it’s a blip! I think that Mannon might win! x
