This Autumn we’ve been really lucky with the weather; during the day it’s been bright, sunny and much warmer than we all expected. I am though, dreading the nights inevitably drawing in and gradually forcing me into driving both to and from work in darkness. In the spirit of finding a silver lining, I admit that I’ll take any excuse to get cosy; in Autumn there are plenty of them. September has been the first month which I haven’t written a monthly blog highlights for. If I’m being honest it’s because I just didn’t have enough specific highlights. I certainly wasn’t going to make any up in an attempt to pad out a post, either. Instead, I thought I’d reflect on how I did spend September and why I’m not pressuring myself to post for the sake of a schedule.
Autumn Nights In
Recently there’s been something comforting about shutting the door on the cold evenings and lighting a fire (or plenty of Autumn themed candles) and turning in for the night. We have plans to purchase our own home early next year which has seen us entertaining ourselves at home more often. We’ve also been attempting to spend a little less than usual. This could be a small factor towards the lack of monthly highlights but there are plenty of others. September saw the re-access to my Open Uni course. Between work and study, I’ve been burning myself out a little. For that reason, I’ve been putting less pressure on myself to have a constantly full calendar. I’ve genuinely just been enjoying spending downtime at home. Jamie and I have both been pretty flat out and so have been focusing most spare time on each other. We certainly won’t be winning any awards for socialising anytime soon, but it’s been nice to have a more quiet month than usual. We’ve been a little like those McDonalds ‘like making the most of your money?’ adverts and have really taken our Netflix subscription seriously. Jamie is even contemplating whether he can use it as an excuse to update our telly to the Oled 4K Tv Panasonic. I guess I can’t complain seeing as I’ve recently spent more than I’d like to admit on Le Creuset from TK-Maxx for a kitchen which I don’t yet own!
Choosing to be Less Busy
I’ve been very excited for the return of Luther and Brooklyn Nine-Nine and have spent evenings re-watching a few in preparation. Bake Off has also been on religiously, but I’m going to be completely honest and say that it’s only really out of loyalty, we haven’t enjoyed it as much this season. I’ve also been taking self-care seriously and enjoying pamper evenings; face-mask on, pink Moscato in one hand and a book in the other. Overall I’ve really enjoyed the lack of pressure to be busy. I haven’t even battered an eyelid when the inevitable office talk questions what I’m doing at the weekend. Sometimes ‘nothing’ is enough of an answer and is absolutely necessary in order to recharge.
