Makeup Staples | The Best Nude Lipsticks For Every Budget

Makeup Staples | The Best Nude Lipsticks For Every Budget

Nude lipsticks are key players in any makeup collection. They can perfectly complete any look, from understated and minimal to full on Kardashian. I heavily rely on nude lipsticks and they’re definitely the tone I tend to wear the most. Despite having a rather large collection, the following five are the select few which I reach for over and over again. All of the following score strongly when considering formula, shade and longevity (I’m also a sucker for cute packaging).

Nude Lipstick Staples

The High End

NARS ‘Anna’ | £26.00

Part of the Audacious Lipstick range designed both to stay put and feel hydrating, Anna is technically a ‘Dusty Mauve’. The versatility of the shade and its ease of wear has me hooked, but admittedly it’s price point sees me reaching for it sparingly. Not wearing it on a daily basis only adds to its exclusive feel though, and it’s very well loved regardless. This one has possibly my favourite lipstick packaging. Although it’s very basic in aesthetic, it’s lid and base are magnetic so always snap satisfyingly in place on closure.

MAC ‘Velvet Teddy’ | £17.50

Velvet Teddy is a classic shade so its best selling status comes as no surprise. It’s described as a deep-tone beige so is on the darker side of the nudes but is still very flattering. Considering its matte finish, it’s not overly drying so makes for a great every day look. I’ve also found it a perfect grab and go shade as it’s neutral enough never to clash with other colours.

Charlotte Tilbury ‘Pillow Talk’ | £24.00

After only recently featuring this in my general beauty staples from last year, my love of this isn’t news. In fact, it’s general popularity is hardly shocking either. Pillow Talk is the perfect nude-pink for a your lips but better kind of look and paired with its sister liner, it stays put. I’d also give this bonus points for incredibly beautiful packaging, even when it’s finished I’m likely to keep and use it as an Instagram prop.

Nude Lipstick Staples

The High Street

Rimmel London ‘Kate 45’ | £5.49

A pink-tone, failsafe nude, this one is buildable so one coat gives a pretty sheen and two gives a block of colour. You can’t argue with the price or the shade but the formula is a little hit and miss. This works perfectly on well-moisturised lips but if yours are going through a dry patch then don’t bother with it. Over summer when my lips are fairly unproblematic, this is the nude that I chuck in my bag and wear to death.

Revlon ‘Forever’ | £8.99

This is without a doubt one of the best high street lip products I’ve owned. The doe foot applicator is of good quality and allows for an easy and flawless application. It’s one of the least drying liquid lipsticks I’ve tried and has a gel formula which makes it perfect for comfortable and continuous wear. It’s undoubtedly worth its standalone price tag but I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve repurchased this and have always taken advantage of a 3 for 2 or similar offer.

I’d love to know if anyone else has tried and loved any of these as much as I do?

It’s gorgeous isn’t it? I’m glad you like the look of it x

  1. March 14, 2019 / 6:20 pm

I love so much the nude lipsticks, I wear them everyday and expecially this Revlon has an amazing color!
    xx Dasynka

    • March 14, 2019 / 9:39 pm

I wear them most days too- I adore the Revlon one x

  2. March 14, 2019 / 6:28 pm

You can’t go wrong with Mac Velvet Teddy can you?! I love the look of that Nars one too. I might have to put in a little order! I love the brand Nars – I only own a few bits at the min but I definitely want more. I also might pick up that Revlon one – I may as well at that price! Xx

    • March 14, 2019 / 9:47 pm

I agree! Haha I’d totally recommend both of them- I always have my eyes on more NARS too haha x

  3. March 14, 2019 / 6:36 pm

I have the CT Pillow Talk too, I succumbed to all the hype. After the initial burst of love, I have to say I’ve been a little disappointed, it makes me look completely washed out. It suits Flora (blonde, blue eyed) but as she’s only 9, she won’t be wearing it out, haha. My perfect nude is Bare Minerals in Mantra. It’s more of a mauvey-pink and goes much better with my frizzy brown hair and red gardener’s cheeks! 🙂 Fab review though, Sophie, and yes to keeping the CT lippie as an Insta prop!

    Lisa x

    • March 14, 2019 / 9:36 pm

Oh that’s such a shame. I have to admit, because its one of my more expensive ones I only ever really wear it with a full face of makeup so haven’t had the same issue yet! Ooh I’ll definitely have to check out the Bare Minerals one, thanks for the recommendation Lisa! x

  4. March 14, 2019 / 6:45 pm

Pillow Talk is one of my favourites ever 😍 much prefer liquid lipsticks to make them long lasting though! Think I’ll have to try out the Revlon one!

    • March 14, 2019 / 9:48 pm

It’s gorgeous isn’t it!? I find liquid lipsticks so much more effective too, the Revlon one is amazing and so creamy for a liquid! x

  5. March 14, 2019 / 8:36 pm

I love all these shades, the revlon one is so reasonable and looks so creamy and dreamy however the one that is always on my wish list is the Charlotte Tilbury ‘Pillow Talk’

    Great post

    • March 14, 2019 / 9:31 pm

They’re all so pretty aren’t they? I’d definitely recommend them both! x

  6. March 15, 2019 / 12:58 am

I am sooo tempted by the Pillow talk from CT. I have never tried anything from her but I see it all over the social media and I just want her stuff in my collection. However, I hardly ever spend more than a tenner on lipsticks… at the same time, i am sure it is worth it. And I am defo gonna give a try the one from Revlon. I never really considered this brand to have decent lip products 🙈 I personally love the Les Chocolats nude lipsticks from L’oreal

    • March 16, 2019 / 10:55 am

It’s really gorgeous in pretty much every way. I know how you feel- it’s definitely an investment but I got this in one of the Cult Beauty deals and tend to only buy such expensive ones on deals or special occasions. I’d say this one is definitely worth the investment. The Revlon is amazing, definitely pick it up if you get the chance! Ooh I’ve not tried those yet so thanks for the recommendation! x

  7. March 15, 2019 / 12:09 pm

You just can’t go wrong with nars! With nude colours, if my lips are a bit dry it’s really noticeable! Can you recommend any lip moisturising products for a base because I have found that nothing really works for me.

I’ve never purchased any tilbury products, but think i’ll give the lippy a go, it’s a really pretty colour! Thanks for the review.

    • March 17, 2019 / 9:51 am

I totally agree. I tend to use Burts Bees because they’re moisturising but still stay relatively matte. I love any Charlotte Tilbury and Pillow Talk is definitely no exception! x

      • March 17, 2019 / 10:00 am

Burts bees it is then! Thanks. x

These all sound amazing, making me want to spend

  10. March 16, 2019 / 10:58 am

I reaaaally want to try Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk – it really looks like the perfect shade!!

    Becca x

    • March 16, 2019 / 11:00 am

It’s honestly so beautiful, definitely worth the investment! x

  11. March 17, 2019 / 5:37 am

Oooh, I should procure a nude lipstick! I really like MAC’s lipsticks. Though, I’ve heard great things about NARS too. I love how rich it looks. Thanks for sharing some of these suggestions!

    Nancy ♥

    • March 17, 2019 / 9:31 am

Definitely! I love both brands, I hope you found them helpful x

  12. March 17, 2019 / 9:41 am

I really want to invest in a nice lipstick. The fact that I don’t have a great quality one is the reason I don’t wear lipstick as much I want to. I’ll definitely look into the ones you mentioned. All those shades are so nice!

    • March 17, 2019 / 5:53 pm

A good high end lipstick will change your life! I hope you find these recommendations helpful x

    • March 17, 2019 / 6:00 pm

They’re such a staple aren’t they?! Pillow Talk is such a cult classic x

  13. March 17, 2019 / 10:28 am

I’m always on the hunt for a nude I actually like! I usually hate the way they look against my pale skin and currently only own one. True nudes definitely aren’t for me, I tend to favour ones that have more of a pinkish or even slightly brown tone to them. The Kate shade looks really pretty but I can’t stand the smell of Rimmel lipsticks! Great selection here x

    • March 17, 2019 / 6:07 pm

I know what you mean- I’m naturally pretty pale and they do look much nicer on me when I fake tan or bronze up, otherwise I can look washed out. I completely relate which is why I featured shades like the NARS which isn’t your typical nude! Oh what a shame, I’ve never noticed their scent to be honest x

  14. March 17, 2019 / 10:56 am

Velvet Teddy, Pillow Talk and the Rimmel Kate lipsticks are all staples in my makeup bag! Loved this post! 🙂 Xx

    • March 17, 2019 / 8:28 pm

I’m so glad you love so many of the same ones I do! Thank you x

  15. March 17, 2019 / 12:33 pm

I love the Rimmel one too! My fave nude lipsticks are the Olivia Palermo ones that Ciate made they last forever!

    • March 17, 2019 / 8:33 pm

Its gorgeous isn’t it?! Ooh thank you for the recommendation I’ve not tried those! x

  16. March 17, 2019 / 12:37 pm

I just love lipsticks and it is my favorite makeup item. Loved all your picks. I have Anna and it is so beautiful, Velvet teddy is lovely but it looks a bit lighter on my skin tone (for my liking hehe) That Revlon one is so darn pretty I will have to get it sooner. 🙂 Lovely pictures

My favourite nude lipsticks right now are by Morphe and ABH! I love the formulas from both but I also adore the NYX Lip Lingerie formula x

    • March 17, 2019 / 8:43 pm

I love Morphe and NYX formulas but don’t have nudes in either- will definitely have to have another look at the shade ranges, thanks for the recommendations! x

  19. March 17, 2019 / 5:54 pm

These all look like amazing nude lipsticks, I really want to get the Nars lipstick and the Charlotte tilbury pillow talk lipstick( been meaning to get this lipstick for ages haha!)

They are! Looks like you have expensive taste too haha. I love them both x

  20. March 17, 2019 / 6:13 pm

I’ve heard such good things about the Charlotte Tilbury lipstick and the Revlon one. I’ve not tried Nars or any Rimmel lipsticks and i really think MAC is overrated!

    • March 17, 2019 / 8:50 pm

They’re both amazing! It’s a shame you think MAC is overrated- I only have a few shades but I really love their formulas and I love their recycling scheme x

  21. March 17, 2019 / 6:16 pm

I’ve been wanting to try velvet teddy or pillow talk for ages now, they seem like the perfect shades!

Lovely post! I’ve been wanting to get CT’s “Pillow Talk” for ages now! I think I might have to invest! 🙂

    • March 18, 2019 / 12:29 pm

Thank you! I’d definitely recommend it x

  23. March 17, 2019 / 8:21 pm

I love wearing nude lipstick, I find it such a flattering shade. I usually find it hard to find the right shade for me but I like more pinky nudes, the Nars Anna lipstick is such a gorgeous shade! The revlon liquid lipstick is also a really nice colour, Great Post x

    • March 18, 2019 / 1:23 pm

I do as well, they’re definitely more effortless than most other shades too! Thanks lovely, I’m glad you liked it x

  24. March 17, 2019 / 8:32 pm

I am a nude lipstick junkie and these are all stunning! I already own Velvet Teddy and Pillow Talk and I pretty much alternate between the two for everyday looks, they’re definitely a staple piece for any makeup bag!

    Love, Soph x

I’d definitely recommend it- such an easy ‘your lips but better’ shade! x

  28. March 17, 2019 / 9:44 pm

In the days when I had money to spend and wore makeup, and before lip gloss then lip balm took over, I had a Clinique lipstick that was very sheer that I totally loved. I don’t know how much it would cost today, but at the time I thought it was worth it 🙂

    • March 18, 2019 / 4:28 pm

Ooh I do love Clinique- I think you might be talking about their chubby sticks? They are pretty if so x

I love wearing nude lipsticks. Your lipsticks are so cute.

  30. March 18, 2019 / 6:00 am

You know, I only use MAC lipstick and I’m glad you include it here. But I wouldn’t mind trying Nars and Charlotte Tilbury too. Love the Nars shade!

    • March 18, 2019 / 2:48 pm

MAC is a pretty good bet isn’t it?! I’d definitely recommend the other two as well x

It’s so pretty isn’t it- I’d definitely recommend, especially as we’re coming up to Spring/ Summer x

  32. March 18, 2019 / 12:35 pm

The Mac lipstick is actually my go-to nude but there’s a few on here that I’ve been wanting to try. I definitely prefer a nude lipstick most often. I think I’m going to have to try the Revlon forever though! That price and review have sold me haha

    • March 18, 2019 / 4:35 pm

It’s such a cult classic isn’t it?! Honestly the Revlon one really really impressed me, it feels much more high end that it’s price point- I hope you love it too if you do pick it up x

  33. March 18, 2019 / 1:07 pm

Really great finds, love the swatches! I’ve started using Charlotte Tilbury in Bond Girl recently, and I think I’ll purchase Pillow Talk as well- the formula is just incredible.

Thank you! I’ve had my eye on Bond Girl for a while but I’m waiting for a good excuse to make the purchase haha! x

      I am too- they’re so wearable aren’t they!? x

  36. March 18, 2019 / 7:51 pm

I usually avoid nudes because I don’t think they work well with my complexion, but these shades seem way more wearable than the beige nudes. The Nars shade looks gorgeous. I may have to try it!

    • March 18, 2019 / 9:08 pm

I’m so glad you think so- I definitely think they’re all wearable but I guess a lot of it is down to skin tone x

      It’s such a cult classic isn’t it?! I love them too x

  37. March 19, 2019 / 11:59 am

  38. March 19, 2019 / 7:50 pm

Pillow Talk is such a staple in my collection, my go-to everyday nude thats for sure! I’ve always lusted over Velvet Teddy, can’t believe I’ve never bought it, such a beautiful shade!

    • March 21, 2019 / 2:26 pm

It’s such a cult classic isn’t it?! It’s lovely and so easy to wear- it also comes up quite a bit cheaper than CT obviously! x

  39. March 19, 2019 / 8:44 pm

I used to be someone who experimented with darker lips, but I’ve been absolutely loving nude lipsticks this year. One of my favourites and the only one I’ve tried from those you’ve listed is Velvet Teddy from Mac. I didn’t think much of it at first, but I’ve stuck with it and now I really like it. It’s running out though and I don’t think I can justify buying a new one at that price. With that being said, I love the sound of the Revolution one you mentioned. I have to make another order for concealer and a foundation (my current one is slightly too light) soon, so I’ll be adding that to my basket alongside to give it a try. Thanks for the recommendations!

    • March 21, 2019 / 6:59 pm

It’s just such a safe option isn’t it?! The Revlon one is amazing if you’re looking for a slightly lower price point! x

    • March 23, 2019 / 6:06 pm

I actually really like the look of the Rimmel and Revlon ones! And that price can’t be sniffed at! Maybe I’ll use them to get me into lipstick, as I’ve always been more of a lip balm and liquid eyeliner girl!

I LOVE the Revlon HD Mattes, I have so many colours in them, they’re honestly amazing for the price! I also love Velvet Teddy, but since it’s a little more expensive (but not too bad) I don’t wear it a lot. I feel like be like that with a Charlotte Tilbury lipstick as well, however I’ve wanted one for years, and I might treat myself to one this summer 🙈
