I’m a hopefully soon-to-be first-time buyer and long-term interior design lover. Browsing home sections and looking for cosy living room and huge hallway inspiration on Pinterest are basically hobbies of mine. So when I happened across a homeware horoscope mid-social media scroll, I was intrigued by how it would summarise me as a Taurus.
‘Always indulgent’, sounds about right.
‘Someone who appreciates the finer things in life’, tick.
The homeware horoscope description of Taurus describes me to a tee. It suggests that a Taurus is drawn to indulgent fabrics, elegant lighting, and earthly colours. Elegant and indulgent are definitely words I’d use to describe my homeware preferences. I have no trouble justifying investing in somewhere that I spend so much time and who doesn’t like a little indulgence?
A HOME REFLECTS WHO WE ARE
It’s unsurprising, really, that environments are able to impact mood. Having a clean and well-presented living area can help us feel calmer and more organised. Just as surrounding ourselves by things we love is an obvious way to incite happiness. That’s why homeware is worth investing in. It attributes to our overall environment and to how we feel when we’re at home.
By simply looking at a room, we can pick up on a vibe; practical or cosy, chic and inspiring. Our homes are open books, reflecting who we are and what we enjoy. Whether you have an interest in interior design or not, everyone likes to spend time in spaces that encourage them to feel good.
HOW TO SENSIBLY INVEST
It’s no surprise that I’m a fan of neutral homeware, I mean, just look at my wardrobe. An earthy colour palette is classic, it allows subtle infusions of colour whilst ensuring that everything remains chic and timeless. It’s my penchant for neutrals that allows me to sensibly indulge in homeware. I invest in the knowledge that the pieces I choose will be well-loved and therefore worth the cost.
It’s worth noting that quality doesn’t always have to demand the highest price point. This Christmas I asked for homeware gifts (am I showing my age?) and my homeware purchases are often made at pricier shops but during sales or special offers. My homeware buys are never dictated by trends, which also affords me the luxury of time, allowing me to save for what I want.
IT’S IN THE DETAIL
Opting for indulgent homeware brings the general standard up. Subtle luxuries are found in the weight of a water glass, the smooth runners of a drawer, and the softness of a blanket. Homeware improvements are so easy and enjoyable because they can be made step by step. Start with the old towels that have needed replacing since 2018 and work your way through, I promise you won’t regret it.
