A couple of weeks ago I hadn’t even heard of it, had anyone? One day nowhere and the next everywhere, every other tweet was about The Ordinary, their products were all over Instagram, and Snapchat magazine stories were hailing their foundation a new cult beauty product.
The end of October is drawing near and we all know that only means one thing, Halloween! This year I’ve loved getting into the spirit and trying out all of the amazing crafts that have been popping up all over my Pinterest! Here are some of the Halloween themed projects that have been occupying my time.
Any excuse to make and eat a load of sweet treats! Last Sunday was well spent baking cupcakes (with a little help from Betty Crocker) and homemade biscuits, that I then had so much fun decorating!
RIP. I freehanded gravestone shaped biscuits and used ready to roll white icing and black writing icing to create little gravestone cupcakes.
Pumpkin Patch. I used a 2D piping nozzle to top some of the cupcakes with black frosting, I then used ready to roll orange icing to create little pumpkins (the grooves of which I scored with a sharp knife).
Bloody Claw. I used a knife to effect claw marks through fondant icing, then dribbled a mixture of icing powder, water and red food dye into the grooves.
DIY Candle Craft
Another easy Halloween craft that I enjoyed trying out, was spookifying a few candles that I bought quite cheaply from Primark. All you need is a few plain pillar candles, a sharpie, a couple of Halloween themed ideas of what to draw and you’re away! PS. These little pumpkin candles were already designed for me by Waitrose but how cute are they!?
Its not Halloween unless you’ve carved a Pumpkin. Let me warn you though, this year was the first time I’ve actually carved my own rather than just drawing a face and letting someone else do the hard part for me! Its tough. No lie, I literally snapped a knife in half trying to cut through the Pumpkin?!?! Who knew they were so thick and tough! I now have a whole new appreciation for my Dad who magically brought my pumpkin face to life my whole childhood!
There’s still a few days left before Halloween! I’d love to know what seasonal crafts or activities you’ve been up to or have planned!?
You may have already gathered that I’m a sucker for anything Disney. I was far too excited when I heard that they were teaming up with Pandora! I’m a tiny bit late on the hype here, but only because I wanted to wait until I had viewed the collection in person. I wanted to make initial purchases until I spoke about it.
Fun fact; Disney is one of my favourite things in the world. I’ll try and get my hands on pretty much anything Disney themed, and as I’m sure you know, Primark has been absolutely killing it recently. They have some really cute Disney bits and bobs for a super affordable price. They’re much more affordable than the new Disney Pandora collection anyway. Here are a few things that I’ve managed to get my hands on and have been loving recently.
I’m a very firm believer in drinking elaborate cocktails, impractical heels and wearing the sexy underwear, all as often as possible. Its interesting how much doing these things, amongst others, can boost my self confidence. No one else knows that I’m wearing sheer lingerie under my clothes but they don’t need to, I’m wearing it for me. These a a few reasons why I’ve fallen for Empress Mimi.
We all know how important social media can be in terms of growing an audience. I’ve always actively worked to improve and grow my own. I wanted to share a few techniques which I’ve found to work for my own Twitter account (@sophhearts). Follow these and watch your follower count grow organically.
I can’t believe it’s officially September and we’re officially into Autumn. It’s now the start of the Winter months. last month I spent some time in sunny Spain and had been hanging on to the sunshine and the summer vibes for as long as I possibly could. Now, I’m back home and am in full autumn mode, think burnt orange colours, hot drinks, fallen leaves and all of the jumpers. Before I start with all that though, here are my September favourites:
