What can I say about New Years Resolutions? Quite frankly, nothing nice. Over the years I’ve made plenty, most of which I don’t remember and many of which I’m certain didn’t progress past the initial notion. I’m a little ashamed to admit that as of yet I’ve definitely not achieved an enviable gym body. Nor have I become fluent (or even close) in any other language. I can, however, pinpoint exactly why past resolutions have been quickly forgotten about. There’s a pressure that I’m sure many of us feel at the beginning of a new year, that this one will be the one; the best year yet. We convince ourselves that of all of the things we want to achieve are attainable and set unrealistic goals as a result. Failure to stick to resolutions also tends to have a lot to do with a little reluctance to actually put the effort in.

Well hello December, you crept up on us a little! As I write this, I can’t quite believe that November is over and another new year is not even a month away. There’s no place like home. Whether you’re returning from a trip or just a long day at the office, no other place is able to welcome you in quite the same way. Homes littered with sentimental items and personal touches are the best and most comforting kind, but it’s also important to remain in love with your living space. I find that the easiest way to avoid that fed up feeling caused by same old is by tweaking and refreshing seasonally.
Autumn and Winter can be amazing for so many different reasons. If nothing more, both seasons provide ample excuse to partake in fun and festivity but also to enjoy some downtime. Self-care should be a year-round ritual, but these seasons are colder and darker, so I’d argue that it becomes even more important. With many of us allowing the gloom and chill to get the better of us, nurturing positivity (in ourselves and others) is definitely a necessary habit.
