Christmas is the season of extravagance and indulgence. I love that it provides so many excuses for full glam Christmas makeup, but what about the big day? Although I still want to look the part, compromises have to be made in order to spend less time in front of the mirror and more time around the tree.
CHRISTMAS MAKEUP ESSENTIALS
On Christmas day I like to use minimal, yet high impact makeup. I absolutely swear by the following products. They’re the kind that miraculously work, regardless of external factors like poor lighting or lack of time. If you want to achieve a fast-paced Christmas makeup look this year, then these products will help you to do that.
A good concealer can hide a multitude of sins, and when I’m in a rush I like to use more of it in order to skip the foundation. That’s assuming I’m having a good skin day. This one is perfect as it provides great coverage. I like to target specific areas and then use a beauty blender to blend it out across my face.
To achieve a little extra coverage and combat festive shine, powder is your new best friend. I literally swipe a powder brush over the L’Oreal True Match and then over my face. An essential step that only takes a few seconds.
I’d recommend this for the same reason that I’d recommend it as a vacation beauty essential: It’s so incredibly quick and easy to use. Typically, I favour pomade pots because of their value for money (yes, even high-end ones). However, pomade pencils are savours on the days that can’t afford you the luxury of time.
This is one of my favourite beauty products of all time because it effortlessly achieves a ‘your skin but better’ look. The bronzer is subtle yet effective, and the highlight is perfect for Christmas makeup because it’s simply beautiful. To make it pop more noticeably, just dampen your fan brush with a setting spray before applying.
I know that a lot of people wouldn’t consider lashes essential. Whilst I appreciate that they’re not essential for the day-to-day, I always wear them for party looks or special occasions. And there are few days more special than Christmas. My natural lashes are underwhelming, so I love being able to instantly transform them by simply applying a strip lash. A past version of me definitely wouldn’t have associated falsies with a quick makeup look, but practise makes perfect and I can now pop them on in a couple of minutes.
You can’t wear lashes without liner. Pen liners are the only ones I’ll use because they’re easy to use and stay put. Plus, in a matter of minutes you can make yourself look more awake by adding a little definition to the lash line.
URBAN DECAY SHADOWS
Urban Decay shadows are some of my favourites. Believe it or not, I’m still using the Original Naked, as well as the more current Ultimate Basics and individual shades like Midnight Rodeo. Any colour is better than none, but on Christmas day I love using gold, or at least some shimmer.
A RED LIP
Christmas is the perfect opportunity to rock a red lip. Whether your preference is lipstick, liquid lipstick or a gloss, red can perfectly complete a Christmas makeup look in seconds. For all day staying power I love the Stila liquid lip, but for a more casual red I use part lipstick and part gloss.
That’s still a fair few products for a quick and simple look, but it’s a lot less than what I’d use for full glam. When used correctly, each step is effortless and should only take a matter of minutes, if that.
