December Highlights

December Highlights

Its the first Sunday of the new year and I still can’t quite get my head around our new 2019 status. There’s a 2018 highlights on it’s way, but for now here are the things and experiences I’ve loved throughout December.

Londons Lights

Mid-December, we took a trip to London; one of my favourite places to see at Christmas. Their decorations and festive atmosphere really help to make this time of year special – although I do avoid it very close to Christmas when the festive bustle turns to pure mania. We visited the Thursday just under two weeks before the big day and it ended up being a really good time to go, I didn’t have to elbow one person!

December Highlights

Honest Burgers

Our first stop in London was for food, no surprises there! We’d skipped breakfast and wanted something quick and close to Kings Cross, so opted for Honest Burger. Neither of us had eaten there before but I can hand on heart say that it was the best burger I’ve ever enjoyed in this country. I had the ‘Tribute’ burger, American style. They also offer a vegan option and their rosemary salted chips are to die for.

Lunch at Lavenham | The Swan

I enjoyed lobster at Lavenham a few Summers ago, but it’s location (at least an hour drive) means that we don’t visit too frequently. Last month my parents stayed at their hotel, and asked us to join them there for a festive lunch. The restaurant mirrored the rest of the village, both beautifully decorated for the season. We enjoyed a three course Carvery and had a lovely festive day doing little more than eating and wandering about. I can recommend their restaurant if you live Suffolk way, and I’d definitely be happy to stay with them in the future.

Day 2 Dry Wash

I worked with Day 2 on a paid campaign in early December, but this recommendation is purely off my own bat. Day 2 gifted me their range of dry wash sprays: the original, for delicates, and for denim, and I’ve been using (and loving) them all month. They breathe new life (and a lovely fresh laundry scent) into clothing that isn’t dirty but is a little stale. From ridding fabric of food smells, to freshening up musty scarves that were at the back of the drawer- I’ve loved and used a lot of Day 2 and will definitely be repurchasing. Every 200ml bottle also saves 60 litres of water- their bottle isn’t yet recyclable yet which is a shame- I’ve been assured they’re working on it.

The M&S Beauty Advent Calendar

This Christmas and last, I enjoyed the M&S beauty calendar. I love trying out new products but don’t subscribe to any beauty boxes as I find a lot of products go unnoticed. Beauty calendars in general are a great way of trying new products and discovering some new favourites in time for the new year. I’ve written about my favourite products from their 2018 calendar here.

Christmas

Christmas, of course, had to make the list. I got to spend a lovely few days with my partner and family, and somehow managed to scrape my way onto the nice list too.

And that rounds up my monthly highlight posts for another year! I hope 2018 was kind to you and that 2019 is even more so.

I adore Lavenham! All the gorgoeus buildings! I definitely recommend climbing the church, the top had an incredible view!

Its a lovely place isn’t it?! Ooh I’ve not thought of that, I’ll definitely keep it in mind, thank you! x

It sounds like you had a lovely month. Congratulations on not having to elbow anyone, I’m yet to achieve that status when in London. I’m really sad I didn’t get a chance to go this year, it’s so beautiful at Christmas. Wash 2 products sound amazing too, definitely something I’d be interested in x

I’ve never tried lobster before but I’d definitely like to and I’d love to try a beauty calendar but I always end up not getting one in time!

I never knew there were products out there like a dry wash for clothes! When I first started reading that bit, I thought it was just a fancy way of you saying dry shampoo ? that sounds really cool, though! I think I’d make a good use out of that. I always feel a bit gross re-wearing a jumper that I’ve wore previously, but only for a little while so it isn’t dirty. I’d feel a lot better refreshing them with this instead of wearing them out by washing them all the time! Sounds like you had a lovely time in December. I hope you have a great 2019, and Happy New Year!

I did thank you! It’s such a cool concept and I was a little sceptical at first but it really is brilliant! x

  6. January 6, 2019 / 2:13 pm

    Those Day2 looks absolutely brilliant.
I live in a small flat and can’t hang clothes outside to sit and I hate that I often have to wash clothes that isn’t actually dirty just to make them “fresh” again when a good hour in fresh air could have done the trick. Not only is it hard in the environment, it’s also hard in the clothes to get washed that much.
Thanks for sharing and happy new year.

    • January 6, 2019 / 10:27 pm

It really is! At this time of year its really difficult to get clothes dry without a dryer isn’t it? Day 2 works wonders! x

  7. January 6, 2019 / 3:16 pm

The Day 2 sprays are such a good idea! Like dry shampoo for clothes lol. Shame about the bottle not being recyclable but surely that can’t be too hard to fix? Fab post, wishing you the best for 2019 =)

    Take care,

Loved the pics, especially the Christmas car. Can imagine the lights look fantastic at Christmas in London. Ooohhh I nearly got an M&S Calendar as on offer at one point. I definitely need one next year. Great highlights and Happy New Year

    • January 7, 2019 / 10:14 pm

Thank you! I’ve really enjoyed the last two years of the M&S calendar, its definitely one to keep in mind x

  12. January 7, 2019 / 5:34 pm

Oh, you’ve got some lovely highlights and memories here! I treated myself to the M&S beauty calendar as well and loved a lot of the products in it. Some I’ll be regifting, but I agree with you, it’s better than subscription boxes. And I’m intrigued by the Day 2 dry wash sprays, they look like a definite upgrade from Febreeze, which I can’t use because it makes us all sneeze, haha. Gorgeous photos, as always, thank you for sharing and I hope 2019 is wonderful for you too! xx

I’m so glad you enjoyed it too! It’s near impossible to find a try out box like this which doesn’t have some products you don’t love isn’t it? Day 2 has made my life so much easier and Jamie loves it too! Thanks Lisa, same to you! x

Sounds like your 2018 was pretty special. I must admit, Honest Burger looks super tasty. One of my highlights from 2018 is trying different restaurants with my sister, it’s our favorite thing to do together?

It sounds like you had a wonderful December! I love visiting London but I’ve never been at Christmas time, I can imagine it’s very intense so I’m glad you didn’t have to get your elbows out haha! Your photo from your trip is very cute though, very festive! I’ve never heard of Honest Burger but I’m now desperate to try one haha. I also hadn’t heard of Day 2 but what a great idea! I’ll definitely be looking into that – that’s so cool that they help save so much water. Glad you had a lovely Christmas too – I’m looking forward to seeing your 2018 highlights when they come!

It’s beautiful at Christmas but I definitely wouldn’t recommend it the closer it gets haha! I know they have a couple around as I’ve recently discovered one in Cambridge too so it’s worth a google to see if there are any local-ish! Thank you, have a wonderful 2019! x

It honestly tastes even better than it looks- proper American style goodness! I think a weekday (during term time) will always be a little more manageable than a weekend- it’s definitely been the case in my experience anyway! Haha sorry, December is all about the food! Thank you, the same to you! x

  17. January 7, 2019 / 7:51 pm

Sounds like you had a lovely December! I’ve never been to Henest Burger but really want to try the vegan burger!
