As someone with an eclectic collection of beauty products, I sometimes struggle to limit my selection for travel purposes. For my recent trip to the Dominican Republic, I knew I’d need to consider sun protection. I also selected products that could comfortably withstand the heat. I would undoubtedly recommend any of the following products either for their compatibility with warm climates or ease of travel. If you’re planning a summer vacation then these are worth keeping in mind.
URBAN DECAY BROW BLADE | £18.00
Not only is this a staple in my daily routine but in my travel makeup case too. A dual-ended tool featuring a waterproof pencil and an ink stain. I tried and tested this to its limits and it endured long haul flights, days sweating in the sun and even long periods of time underwater- snorkelling of course. Although there were times my brows returned to the hotel room mirror not exactly as they had been at the beginning of the day, the general look was always impressively similar.
Waterproof mascara is an absolute vacation essential. Although I find them a nightmare to remove at the end of the day, the ability to wear without worry throughout hot days is entirely worth it. This one stays completely put. As I don’t wear waterproof mascara too often generally, affordability is key.
A cult beauty favourite which I featured in my 2019 New Year Beauty Staples. I’ll grant that it doesn’t have the most appealing scent but boy does it do the job.
DERMALOGICA SKINPERFECT PRIMER SPF30 | £46.50
As a proud Skinfluencer, Dermalogica products feature heavily within my skincare routine. What I’ve been most impressed by recently though, are their SPF products. Unlike most of their unscented skincare, their primer has a calm-inducing lavender scent. Boasting SPF 30, I was expecting a dewy finish at best but was very pleasantly surprised to discover a matte finish that blurs fine lines. This is the perfect primer if you’re looking to achieve both effortless sun-care protection and long-lasting makeup.
DERMALOGICA PRISMA PROTECT SPF30 | £58.00
Throughout my vacation I switched between this and the above primer, opting for the SPF moisturiser before no makeup days in the sun. Despite 30 degree heat and the scorching sun burning various areas of my body (regardless of spending a small fortune on suncream), my face did nothing more than nicely tan. We all know how important sun protection is, for both health and beauty reasons. As well as health benefits, the moisturiser warrants its luxury price tag by utilising visible light to activate intelligent drone technology which boosts the skin’s natural luminosity. The product also provides all-day hydration, an even skin tone and visibly smooth skin.
LEIGHTON DENNY, PRIVATE BEACH | £12.00
Leighton Denny is without a doubt one of my top three nail polish brands both for colour range and durability. Their SS19 Wanderlust shade collection is literally designed for vacation. I’ve been wearing peachy shade ‘Private Beach‘ almost consistently for the last few months and am yet to get bored of it. Despite all nail varnish holding up terribly in such powerful heat, I wanted to mention this as the perfect seasonal shade.
PERCY & REED JET SET GO | £5.00-£8.00
Admittedly, Percy & Reed isn’t a brand I’ve extensively tried. Despite that, I’ve been impressed with what I have, including products from their most recent travel launch. They’re currently offering a free cosmetic travel bag with any purchase of 4+ miniature products. Although I’m someone who isn’t typically eager to waste precious luggage space with shower products, I do like to travel with haircare suited to my own needs. I took a few of their volumising products and despite a constant battle against the humidity, I was impressed.
I’m most excited for new beauty products designed for or around the warmer seasons. Brighter colour palettes inspire and fresh-faced looks are often more comfortable and forgiving to the skin. These are all products I highly appreciated over my vacation and which I’ll undoubtedly be using throughout the rest of the summer (if we get one in Britain). Have you tried any of them yet?
